What is CBT...

...or cognitive behavioural therapy?

CBT is a type of psychotherapy that encourages a change in the way you see the world and yourself, and can result in a more positive approach to the self and others.

It is focused on the here and now, and can help enact behavioural changes by challenging your assumptions about such things as people's actions towards you and your views on the world.

The aim of CBT is to change your daily thought processes gradually, helping you look for practical ways to improve your state of mind on a daily basis. 

What to expect from your treatment...

...as we progress through our time together

CBT usually involves weekly or fortnightly sessions with a therapist. The number of sessions required varies depending on your problems and goals, with treatment usually lasting from 6 to 20 weeks.

What you can expect when calling Fairweather Therapy to book a block of cognitive behavioural therapy sessions:

  • You'll be invited to attend an assesment appointment to discuss your needs and goals for therapy
  • Sessions will normally last 50 minutes, unless otherwise arranged
  • During your treatment, you'll be asked to complete tasks between sessions to consolidate what you have learned
  • CBT is a collaborative therapy, which means we will be working together to achieve your goals
  • Your treatment goals will be reviewed after 6 weeks of therapy, further sessions will then be agreed if needed
  • Once your goals have been reached you may wish to return for "Booster" sessions after 4 weeks, 3 months and 6 months
